He is now going to be graduating as an MD on May 1st, 2020 from Florida Atlantic University and just got matched into a Residency Program at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital. Congratulations Jeffrey we are very proud of you!

“I interned in the research department at the Orthopaedic Foundation during the summers of 2013 and 2014 when I was an undergraduate student at Brandeis University. This was my first experience in medical research and the staff at the Orthopaedic Foundation welcomed me with open arms. Everyone at the Foundation was and still is extremely supportive of me and helped me gain the professional skills needed to understand how to conduct and analyze medical research. These skills became invaluable to me as I continued my journey through medical school and research. I am forever grateful for the experiences and support I have gained from my friends at the Orthopaedic Foundation. I know the skills that I gained there will continue to help me as I move onto Residency this summer.”

Grace Plassche

After playing lacrosse and studying Biology at Brown University Grace came to Connecticut to do a 2019/2020 Clinical Research Internship with The Orthopaedic Foundation. Grace will now attend Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeonsin 2020 as she continues to further her medical career. We wish you the best of luck Grace!

“My time at the Orthopaedic Foundation has been the ideal transition and preparation period as I have gained valuable insight into the field of medicine. I was able to work directly under the Director of Research, Stephanie Petterson, PhD, as her Research Assistant and became integrated into the various research projects that run concurrently through the foundation. These include several retrospective studies investigating trends in orthopaedic ailments, as well as clinical trials on the forefront of sports medicine. My knowledge of medicine has been expanded in a variety of facets. As I have become exposed to the entire world of orthopaedics, I have had the opportunity to familiarize myself with procedures such as rotator cuff repairs, knee arthroplasties, and ACL reconstructions. I have learned how to analyze data, interpret academic findings and write scientific papers.

This year has confirmed my desire to enter the medical field and I am excited to say that I will begin medical school in August at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. This year at the Foundation has been one of growth and enjoyment for me as I enter the next phase of my life, motivated to be a compassionate and knowledgeable doctor in the future.”

I was given the opportunity to learn how to analyze data, interact with doctors daily, as well as the ability to learn multiple skills in their state-of-the-art Bioskills Lab. Aside from these great opportunities; I worked with a great team of professionals. There were so many things I learned such as, event planning with Ryan, office management with Janine, or analyzing data and the use of critical thinking with Stephanie. These lessons were invaluable!

I am currently a Clinical Specialist II at Abbott Laboratories in their Neuromodulation Division. The territory I cover is the Greater New York City area (Bronx to Nassau County). My day to day consists of working with surgeons, implanting our devices, providing patient care to patients currently using our therapy, as well as creating business opportunities for physicians’ practices and educating them on our therapy.”
