Eyes on Ski Season!
Preparation is the key!
Since we are right in the heart of ski season, I would like to take some time to talk about what the average skier should do in preparation for a ski trip with family
or friends. Most of us will schedule a trip and just pack up and go without any physical preparation. This is not the best decision to make. It is important to
condition the body in the weeks leading up to a skiing expedition in order to prevent minor and major injuries.
Preventable Injuries?
This time of the year, we see a large number of skiers who have injured themselves on the slopes. While we think of skiing injuries as impacting knees and ankles, an
active skier is likely to experience other injuries. Common injuries include minor wrists sprains and wrist fractures as well as some major knee injuries. While we
recognize the truth of the statement that accidents do happen - preparation can certainly lead to a safer ski season.
Plan Ahead!
Starting off a few weeks in advance of your trip, you should make sure your legs are strong. So what you can to build up plenty of endurance for the long trips down
the mountains. The stronger the legs are, the more stable you will be and possibly prevent some falls and the associated injuries.
The Heart of the Matter -
Also, of great importance is your cardiovascular endurance. The more fit you are, the better you will tolerate the runs. Hopefully, these few tips will get you
through the ski season healthy and happy!
